Wednesday, June 13, 2012 Divided We Stand: Nick Clegg And David Cameron At Odds Over Jeremy Hunt Nick Clegg has laid bare a major coalition rift by revealing that he wants David Cameron to launch a sleaze probe into Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt's handling of the BSkyB bid. The Liberal Democrat leader has repeatedly told Cameron that the independent adviser on ministerial interests, Sir Alex Allan, should be brought in to consider the case. The behind-the-scenes clash emerged as Clegg signalled that his MPs will abstain in a vote being forced by Labour on the issue on Wednesday. Cameron will win the vote as even without Lib Dem support he has a majority in the Commons, although one Tory MP has been asked to return from his honeymoon early in order to vote. The prime minister will not be popular with the new Mrs Tomlinson. The deputy prime minister will give evidence at the Leveson inquiry today, a platform from which he will seek to remind everyone that while the Tories and Labour were sucking up to Murdoch the Lib Dems kept their distance. Of course it could be argued that in fact it was more that Murdoch kept his distance from the Lib Dems as he and his papers didn't think they were worth bothering listening to.
